Barbados records a double road fatality

Two more people have lost their lives on our roads, with Barbados recording five road fatalities in under a week.

Police from the Hastings/Worthing Station are presently carrying out investigations into a fatal collision, resulting in the deaths of a man and a woman. It occurred about 3:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 1, 2024, along Highway 7, Hastings Main Road, in the area of the Soco Hotel.

The collision involved one motor vehicle, with four occupants. The motor car was travelling along the mentioned road from the area of the Lanterns Mall towards the area of Bridgetown when on reaching a point in the road, the driver of the vehicle struck a wall of the Soco Hotel and then struck a utility pole.

A female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor, while a male passenger was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police are appealing to motorists travelling along Highway 7 to divert at Hart’s Gap if travelling in a southern direction and at Dayrells Road in the area of Bubba’s Sports Bar if travelling towards the City, as officers continue to carry out their investigations.
