As German Fuentes Rodriguez takes to a seat in his local cafe, his eyes look a little heavy. “Jet lag,” he laughs. The coffee he orders is needed after two important trips to the United States within a month.
Just 48 hours earlier, the Athlone Town defender was across the Atlantic to sign the final papers for his US citizenship, the last step on a two decade-long process first initiated by his mother, who emigrated from their native El Salvador to Boston when he was a child.
